🇬🇧 UK Standard Visitor Visa — A complete A-Z guide
Trong số tất cả các loại visa mà mình làm cho khách Việt, visa Anh là loại khiến mọi người lo lắng nhất. Lý do dễ hiểu: phí £135 (hơn 4 triệu VND) không hoàn lại nếu trượt, không phỏng vấn nên không có cơ hội "giải thích", và lãnh sự Anh nổi tiếng khắt khe.
Nhưng đây cũng là loại visa mà mình thấy tỉ lệ đậu cao nhất khi hồ sơ được chuẩn bị bài bản. Chìa khóa nằm ở việc hiểu lãnh sự Anh đang nhìn vào điều gì.
Visa Anh là gì, có loại gì?
Cái mà phần lớn người Việt cần là UK Standard Visitor Visa — visa du lịch ngắn hạn, có thể dùng cho:
- Du lịch (tham quan, nghỉ dưỡng)
- Thăm thân (bạn bè, người thân ở Anh)
- Công tác ngắn hạn (họp, hội nghị, ký hợp đồng)
- Khám chữa bệnh tự túc
Thời hạn standard là 6 tháng, mỗi lần ở tối đa 6 tháng. Nếu bạn cần đi nhiều lần, có loại long-term 2 năm, 5 năm, hoặc 10 năm (giá cao hơn nhưng tiết kiệm về dài).
Chi phí thật sự là bao nhiêu?
Đây là phần khách hay bị bất ngờ. Tổng chi phí gồm 2 khoản chính:
- Phí visa £135 (~$170) — trả cho UKVI, đã bao gồm phí lăn tay cơ bản tại VFS
- Phí dịch vụ Visa Help 24h $250 — soạn hồ sơ, thư cover, sửa giấy tờ
Tổng cộng khoảng 11 triệu VND cho lần xin standard visitor. Phí £135 là không hoàn lại nếu trượt — đây là rủi ro lớn nhất.
Lưu ý: VFS có một số dịch vụ tùy chọn cộng thêm — Priority Visa (~£500, xử lý 5 ngày), Super Priority (~£1000, next-day), VIP lounge, courier giao hộ chiếu… Đây là những dịch vụ không bắt buộc. Hầu hết khách Việt chọn standard và không cần thêm.
Lãnh sự Anh thật sự đang nhìn gì?
Khác với Schengen (chủ yếu xem giấy tờ), lãnh sự Anh đánh giá 3 yếu tố:
- Mục đích chuyến đi rõ ràng — đi đâu, làm gì, ở đâu, với ai
- Khả năng tài chính — đủ tiền cho chuyến đi và trở về
- Lý do về Việt Nam — công việc, gia đình, tài sản — chứng minh không có ý định ở lại Anh trái phép
Yếu tố thứ 3 là nguyên nhân chính khiến hồ sơ bị từ chối. Ngay cả khi tài chính rất tốt, nếu lãnh sự nghi ngờ "không có gì giữ chân ở VN", họ sẽ refuse.
Giấy tờ cần chuẩn bị
- Hộ chiếu còn hiệu lực ít nhất 6 tháng
- Ảnh visa chuẩn UK (45×35mm, nền trắng)
- Lịch trình du lịch + booking khách sạn + vé máy bay (chưa cần thanh toán)
- Sao kê ngân hàng 6 tháng + giấy tờ thu nhập (lương, kinh doanh)
- Giấy tờ chứng minh ràng buộc tại VN: hợp đồng lao động, sổ đỏ, đăng ký kết hôn, giấy khai sinh con
- Thư mời (nếu thăm thân hoặc công tác)
- Giấy tờ chuyến đi quốc tế trước đây (visa, dấu xuất nhập cảnh) — đây là điểm cộng LỚN
Thời gian xử lý
Standard processing là 15 ngày làm việc (khoảng 3 tuần), tính từ ngày bạn nộp dấu vân tay tại VFS. Có dịch vụ Priority (5 ngày, +£500) và Super Priority (next-day, +£1000) — nhưng phần lớn khách Việt chọn standard.
Mẹo: nộp ít nhất 4-6 tuần trước ngày bay. Đừng đợi đến phút cuối.
Tỉ lệ đậu thật sự
Theo số liệu UKVI 2024, tỉ lệ đậu visa du lịch cho công dân VN khoảng 87%. Nghe cao, nhưng nghĩa là cứ 100 người nộp thì có 13 người trượt — và mỗi người trượt mất £135 + cơ hội đi.
Trong số khách của Visa Help 24h, tỉ lệ đậu cao hơn — nhưng mình không hứa 100%. Bất kỳ ai hứa 100% đậu visa Anh là đang nói dối.
Sai lầm phổ biến nhất
- Sao kê ngân hàng "đẹp đột ngột" — gửi 200 triệu vào tài khoản 1 tuần trước khi nộp. Lãnh sự nhìn ra ngay.
- Lịch trình quá tham vọng — "đi 8 nước trong 14 ngày". Không thực tế, mất tin cậy.
- Thiếu cover letter — không giải thích bạn là ai, đi vì gì, sẽ về vì gì. Lãnh sự không có thời gian tự đoán.
- Dùng Google Translate cho thư mời/cover — sai ngữ pháp, lệch giọng văn. Mất điểm.
Of all the visas I help Vietnamese clients with, the UK visa is the one that worries them the most. Understandably: the £135 fee (~$170) is non-refundable if you're refused, there's no interview so no chance to "explain", and UK consular officers have a reputation for being strict.
But it's also the visa I see the highest approval rates on — when the file is prepared properly. The key is understanding what the UK consulate is actually looking at.
What is the UK visa, and which type do I need?
What most Vietnamese travellers need is the UK Standard Visitor Visa — a short-term visa that covers:
- Tourism (sightseeing, holidays)
- Visiting friends or family in the UK
- Short business trips (meetings, conferences, signing contracts)
- Private medical treatment
Standard validity is 6 months, with up to 6 months per stay. If you travel often, longer-term options exist: 2-year, 5-year, or 10-year visitor visas (higher upfront cost but cheaper per trip).
What does it actually cost?
This is where most clients get caught out. The full cost includes three parts:
- £135 visa fee (~$170) — paid to UKVI, includes basic biometric fee at VFS
- $250 Visa Help 24h service fee — file preparation, cover letter, document review
Total around $420 USD for a standard visitor application. The £135 is non-refundable if you're refused — that's the biggest risk.
Note: VFS offers optional add-on services — Priority Visa (~£500, 5-day processing), Super Priority (~£1000, next-day), VIP lounge, passport courier… These are not required. Most Vietnamese clients go with standard and don't need them.
What is the UK consulate actually looking at?
Unlike Schengen (mostly document-based), UK consular officers assess three things:
- Clear trip purpose — where, what, where you're staying, with whom
- Financial capacity — enough funds for the trip and your return
- Reasons to return to Vietnam — job, family, assets — proof you don't intend to overstay
The third factor is the main reason applications get refused. Even with strong finances, if the officer suspects "nothing tying you to Vietnam", they'll refuse.
Documents you'll need
- Passport valid 6+ months
- UK-compliant visa photo (45×35mm, white background)
- Travel itinerary + hotel bookings + flight reservations (no payment needed)
- 6 months of bank statements + income proof (salary slips, business records)
- Proof of ties to Vietnam: employment contract, property deeds, marriage certificate, children's birth certificates
- Invitation letter (if visiting family or for business)
- Previous international travel records (visas, entry stamps) — this is a BIG plus
Processing time
Standard processing is 15 working days (~3 weeks) from the day you submit biometrics at VFS. Priority (5 days, +£500) and Super Priority (next-day, +£1000) services exist — but most Vietnamese clients go with standard.
Tip: submit at least 4-6 weeks before your flight. Don't leave it until the last minute.
Actual approval rates
According to UKVI 2024 data, visitor visa approval for Vietnamese nationals is around 87%. Sounds high, but it means 13 in every 100 are refused — and each loses £135 plus the trip opportunity.

The most common mistakes
- Bank statements that suddenly "look good" — depositing 200 million VND a week before applying. Officers spot this immediately.

- No cover letter — failing to explain who you are, why you're going, why you'll return. Officers don't have time to guess.
- Google-translated invitation/cover letters — broken grammar, wrong tone. Loses points.
